God and Mrs Thatcher: The Battle for Britain’s Soul

Posted on Updated on

Last night the MCR hosted Dr Eliza Filby of King’s College London who is promoting her new (and first) book about the relationship between the former Prime Minister’s Christian faith and her Conservative politics. Dr Filby’s controversial thesis: Margaret Thatcher failed to recreate the world of her father; instead she succeeded in creating the world of her son. Dr Filby’s book is a valuable and provocative contribution to the study of the Thatcher era, and will undoubtedly prove to be indispensable for subsequent historians (whether or not they agree with her) seeking to understand Mrs Thatcher’s approach to Christianity. For a review of Dr Filby’s book by Mrs Thatcher’s official biographer, Charles Moore, visit: http://www.spectator.co.uk/books/9491742/did-mrs-thatcher-do-god-denis-thought-so-and-he-should-know-says-charles-moore/.
